Elevating aging.

Cloud on La Brea

466 North La Brea introduces a new model of Active Senior Living that celebrates aging for people from a relatively younger age of 55. Located along one of Los Angeles’ best known corridors, the design transforms a compact site into a vertical village, where every level supports body, mind, and community. Our vision reimagines senior living as a living ecosystem, wrapping nature around community in a place of dignity and belonging.

  • A new model of aging
The brief was to fuse a wellness center with active senior housing, creating a vitality-focused alternative that supports health through movement, social connection, and environmental harmony. More than housing, the result is a new typology for healthier longevity.

    Ground-level engagement
A public-facing ground floor acts as a commons for exchange and inclusion. A used bookstore encourages residents to share books collected over a lifetime. An advice booth transforms lived experience into mentorship. A restaurant invites neighbors to connect over healthy meals, while an integrated pharmacy and clinic support everyday wellness. Together, these spaces dissolve the boundary between aging and urban life.

    An ascending design
The architecture unfolds as a gentle climb from the civic to the serene. Lower levels are alive with movement and activity. Upper levels offer quiet and restoration, culminating in a rooftop garden. The ascent creates moments to gather, pause, and reflect at every step.

    A garden center
A C-shaped plan wraps around a protected central courtyard visible from every level. Wide corridors are conceived as promenades. These are places to walk, pause, and connect. The internal garden becomes a daily ritual, linking residents through nature and light.

    Environmental performance
The façade incorporates vertical fins, operable shading, and deep balconies to regulate light and reduce heat gain. Living vines on amenity levels cool the microclimate and attract pollinators. Rooftop gardens are irrigated by harvested rainwater. These elements embed sustainability in everyday experience.

    Restorative interiors
Interiors are warm and calming, finished in light wood, lime plaster, and temperature-stabilising concrete. A rooftop pavilion of perforated metal filters sunlight across yoga decks, healing gardens, and lounge spaces, creating an atmosphere of serenity and renewal.
